AND OPINION
From Reading Rockets –
Educators
Differ on Why Boys Lag in Reading
The Washington Post
Enticing boys to read – and to keep reading –
is the flip side of the sometimes fierce debate about
girls and their math and science abilities, and both
issues are receiving new attention as educators focus
on how boys and girls learn differently.
Teen
Readers Inspire Kids
The Indianapolis Star
Carrying brightly colored elementary picture books,
a cluster of lively teens make their way down the hall
to four first-grade classrooms. Wide-eyed, admiring
youngsters nestle in small groups on the floor at their
feet and listen as the high-schoolers read aloud. The
teens, mostly freshmen, are members of Writers and Readers
Advisory Panel, an offshoot of Carmel High's media center.

From Connect for Kids –
The
International Children's Digital Library
Not all libraries are created equal, primarily because
of financial constraints -- and not all children have
access to an endowed library. The International Children's
Digital Library is a five-year project funded by the
National Science Foundation and the Institute for Museum
and Library Services to create a digital library of
international children's books that reflect similarities
and differences in cultures, societies, interests, lifestyles,
and priorities of people around the world.
