Community Literacy
Focus for Fall
CNY Reads: North Star Conspiracy by Miriam Grace Monfredo
This is an annual initiative to promote
literacy and community dialogue. The idea is to encourage
everyone in the community to read the same book and
then participate in discussions and events pertaining
to the book. This year’s book is North Star Conspiracy
by Miriam Grace Monfredo. The novel, set in neighboring
Seneca Falls in 1856, deals with the women’s rights
movement, the Underground Railroad, and life during
the years just prior to the Civil War.

Fall
Trainings September- December with CNYTC and STC
Here is how to register for a CNYTC
or STC course.
- Look through the Fall course/workshop
offerings for both centers and determine which course
you would like to take.
- Send an E-mail to the FLAGS coordinator,
Nancy Volk, stating the course title, teaching center
(either CNYTC or STC), and dates you will be taking
the course. This will allow us to budget for your
attendance.
- Follow the instructions in the program
about how to register. Where DISTRICT is indicated
on the registration form contained in the brochure,
place the term- FLAGS.
- FLAGS will pick up the cost for the
training. Do not send payment.
- The teacher centers will track FLAGS
participants, their attendance and successful completion
of the course and bill FLAGS for our participants
once a term.
- We would appreciate hearing from you
regarding these opportunities. And we encourage you
to broadcast this opportunity within your agency.
